What Are TIG  Electrodes / Welding Rods?

 


With electric arc welding, a major use for the welding rod is as a consumable electrode that also generates heat in the workpiece. An electrical discharge from this electrode provides heat that melts both the electrode and heats the base metal. TIG welding is an electric welding process that uses a non-consumed tungsten electrode to provide heat, with the Welding rod added manually. This is more like gas welding as a process, but with a different heat source. The welding rod has an outer flux coating which protects the metal from damage, stabilizes the arc, and improves the weld. When joining two pieces of metal together, electrodes are used to create an electric arc. The two metals heat and melt, fusing together in a stronger bond.

316L - TIG rod, high-alloyed, high corrosion resistant. Avesta 316L is designed for welding austenitic stainless steel of type 17 Cr 12 Ni 2.5 Mo or similar. The filler metal is also suitable for welding titanium and niobium stabilized steels such as ASTM 316Ti and ASTM 316Nb in cases where the construction is used at temperatures not exceeding 400 °C.

  • Corrosion resistance: Excellent resistance to general, pitting and intercrystalline corrosion in chloride containing environments

  • Welding titanium and niobium stabilized steels in cases where the construction is used at temperatures not exceeding 400 °C. For higher temperatures, a niobium stabilized consumable is required
